Olympic tickets (June 23, 2011)
England hockey are still in negotiation on the sessions EHB have secured tickets for as soon as they know they will be letting clubs know.
Inaddition EHB are also negotiating a special dealfor access to tickets for the Olympic Test Event which will take place on 2-6 May 2012 at the Olympic Park. The Test event is a Men's and Women's four nations event and will include the best nations in the world and of course Great Britain's teams. Any one interested let me know A.S.A.P. as I have to let EHB know

Jason Wakefield - ' A real charmer ' (June 06, 2011)
Tragically Jason sadly passed away on May 28th and words can not explain the loss of such a young talented life. Jason touched all of our hearts in one way or another and was very much loved and respected. Jason was a great friend who made a lasting impact on everyone in Dart Hockey Club and whom will never be forgotten. God bless you Jason.
All our thoughts are with Kevin, Maggie,and his brothers Luke, Mark, Matthew, Liam, and Adam.
A celebration of Jason's life will be held at Bovey Tracey Parish Chuch on Friday 10th June at 2.00pm and afterwards at the Dolphin Hotel. Everyone is welcome to join the family.

This seasons Dinner and Dance is to be held at the Seven Stars, Totnes on Friday 6th May with a 7.00pm for 7.30pm start. If you want to go but have not yet booked your place, you need to contact Cath Causey as a matter of urgency as the deadline has now passed. You need to let cath know your choices with cash/cheque for £20 per person. Cheques need to be written out to Dart Hockey Club.

Support this years AGM on April 8th with a sneaky beer or two.....or three! The event is at the Rugby Club and starts at 7.15pm prompt. Once you have displayed your views about the club and any matters arising, we will be paying tribute to local public houses by sampling their finest beveridges.
This years fancy dress theme will be 'The 80's'. Wear anything you can think of from this iconic period of time. It should certainly lighten up the AGM seeing the first team captain dressed like MR Motivator trying to deliver his season's speech.

Men's 2nd XI Awards (March 28, 2011)
Following an exciting season I am pleased to announce the following awards which were presented last Saturday:
Best goal of the season: Sam Holdsworth for the goal against Marjons when we only had 7 players at the time.
Most goals scored: Matt Quartley with 13. (I came bottom with -2, good ones though)
Most improved player: Johnny Tillbrook (no blond jokes here)
Most hard-working player: Paul Rose - a midfield dynamo who never, ever stopped trying.
Most laid back player: Tim Brook (never flustered)
Most memorable tackle: Joss Farr for his high speed, sliding tackle into the back of a Truro player with absolutely no chance of getting the ball. It was very funny but he was lucky not to get sent off.
Most apologetic player: Marcus Watkins – he was terribly sorry to someone.
Most absurd excuse for not being available: Joey Small who had to go shopping with his mother
Longest commute to a match: Chris Salisbury - came back from Australia to play.
Most unorthodox style: Nate Christian-John - brilliant, but HOW?
Most one-handed player: Dom Lyons -frustrating to watch but it worked down the right wing.
Most likely to comment at half-time: Iain Gibson - it became part of the ritual
Most Man of the Match Votes: James Goodwin got us out of trouble so many times
Player least likely to be spoken to by an umpire: Tristan Day - model citizen
Best match report: Will Watson for the report on 9-0 defeat by Truro B - “a hard start with jake libby being taken off early. they scored a lot of poor goals and proved they were cornish” – had to be slightly edited as I live in Cornwall.
Most helpful umpire: Mike Maynard was always happy to come and umpire so thank you very much. Runner up was Sam Tallowin for sending off the Bude goalkeeper - we scored while he was off and won the match 2-1.
2nd XI Player of the Season will be announced at the Dinner and Dance.

As you all know the Olympics are coming soon, as a club we can get a good deal on tickets and maybe a bus or even accommodation, if anyone is interested can they leave a note on the message board or speak to me. This is for some of us a once in a lifetime opportunity and an awesome experience.

Indoor hockey will be starting on Monday April 4th at Totnes Pavillions 6-7pm. If numbers become too small and we are unable to cover costs of hiring the hall then we will have to cancel the slot.

Canadian Triumph at DHC (January 31, 2011)

DHC hosted their first annual School Festival today which saw seven teams across four schools compete at our home: KEVICC. The year 5 and 6 students played some quality hockey at times in a high tempo tournament and it is hoped that these students will soon be Dart players.
After just passing our Clubs First accreditation the club is now looking at ways of moving forward and this project has been in place for two months now. Our leadership students were also involved and ran the officiating of the event, they were great and really helped the students to develop. The project has been incredibly successful and we are hoping to see the results of this in our club squads soon.
All of the teams played their part in a great event but there have to be winners and there have to be losers. This years School Champions are Canada Hill who were awesome with some great individual skill as well as inspirational team play.
Thank you to all of the coaches who have been into the schools coaching the students, as well as the parents who drove and supported them this evening. Our leadership students were also fantastic! Thank you to everyone who has helped out in the project and look forward to your help this time next year!!

After seeing the advert placed on the Dart website, Jon Woodhouse applied to become a ball boy at the London 2012 Olympic Games. He has been placed on a shortlist and will be put through his paces at Lilleshall. If selected Jon will be representing Dart at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Good Luck

National League Player visits Dart HC (November 02, 2010)
I have organised a National League Player to come in and coach the Men on November 15th at KEVICS. They will only attend the session if we have a guaranteed 20 people at training. Your Club Needs You (September 21, 2010)
Hi All,
The club are always looking at moving forward and this years initiative sees us as a club coaching at some of our local primary schools. This is where you come into it:
We need people who are willing to coach once a week in a local primary school for this to work. This is totally flexible to you and you would contact the school (the school is agreed by us first) to fit a coaching slot around your availability. You would be coaching year 5 and 6 students aged 9-11.
If you are interested in this to help the club continue as we are facing difficult times ahead with players going off to university etc, we would like to hear from you. Please email me for more information.
If you have not done anything for the club before, this would be the perfect opportunity for you to get involved!! We want committed, reliable people, any age!

Indoor Training (April 11, 2010)
Now everyone has had a few weeks off, starting Monday 19th April (as 12th April Ivybridge Trial) 6-7pm, Totnes Leisure Centre, Mixed Indoor Training. The price will be £3 a person and should remain constant. If we get 15 people every week it may even come down. The hall is booked from now until the 26th July with scope to extend until October. Good way to keep fit over the summer to supliment summer league and not to mention one of the best ways to improve your spacial awareness and stick skills.

THE AGM IS SOON! Decisions will be made about YOUR club, that WILL affect YOU next season. (For instance, where will we play? And, we will probably only have 2 mens' teams, maybe only 1, because a) Paul, Iain and Vic will be stepping down,and you cannot have teams unless they have Captains,etc, to organise them; and b) half of you are too bone idle even to let your captains know your availability in time for matches, never mind take responsibility for anyone else.)
OR ... perhaps you enjoy what the club puts on for you enough, to maybe do some of it yourself ... perhaps you could be a Captain/Vice-Captain or Fixture Sec? (I'm sure we could help you get started!)
OR ... perhaps you have some ideas about what we are doing (wrong?)/trying to do?
Even if you can't make it to the AGM (or send a parent to represent your interests), you can still pass on your thoughts to be discussed, via your Capt/VC committee members.

WED 17TH FEBRUARY 2010
I have been finding that since we have had a junior section and three men's teams, (with the continued added complication of no clubhouse), it has been increasingly difficult to discuss what I consiider to be 'player-based issues' with all those concerned.
I believe that we should have a players' meeting maybe up to twice a year so that we can look at aspects such as:
the development of the club as a whole
development of the men's section
issues of selection and rotation
how juniors and older players are brought into and mentored in the adult and higher teams
how more of the maturing players (such as Johnny Woodhouse!) take active roles in the club
the falling number of junior males
male coaches for junior teams
training issues etc.
I think that it would be useful for there to be an arena to air your views - constructively, if you have any.
Additionally, there is also sometimes no real arena to disseminate ('pass on' - for those of you from Newton!) information from the committee.

MEN'S COACH - YOUR VIEWS (February 09, 2010)
Duncan coached us on Monday night - 8th Feb. I need to find out your views, so please can you either give us a bell or have a chinwag sometime. Despite having to deal with you bunch of spanners, Duncan said he really enjoyed coaching again. He would be happy to continue coaching but as you could see from last night it would be an 'all in' or nothing approach. He has spoken of wanting to set goals and targets for each player and take us forward as a whole mens section as well as indivudally and as teams.
I would have to take this by the committee first as well as the other coaches obviously.

MEN'S TRAINING - NEW COACH - TRIAL (January 27, 2010)
A coach has approached us (through Chris Pascoe - ladies member) and has expressed an interest in coaching us. Yes he must be both stupid and insane! I understand that he has played at a fair level and has coached a good standard of teams - including North Notts to premier league status, Bristol and Isca.
He wants to come and take a coaching session - not next week, as that's Sue's slot but the week after - so make sure you are there for 7.45 prompt.
His name is Duncan Hadrell
So he will take mens training on Monday 8th February.

Congratulations (March 30, 2009)
Congratulations to the 2nd team for their promotion to South West 1. We all need to get behind the ladies first team now as they bid to be promoted as champions in their league. 7 points from 9 will guarantee promotion. They play at Lipson on Saturday 12.00pm push back. Lets get down there and push them on. Wouldn't it be great to have three of our teams promoted in 2 years!!!!!

MENS' 2NDS TRIUMPH! (March 29, 2009)
At last! The Mens' 2nd team, ably led from the front (but mainly middle and back!) by Paul Rose, will not only be promoted next season, but will go up as WINNERS of their division. Tan-tarra, and all that! Well done boys - an excellent blending of skills into a fine team. Top scorer Simon Garland (24 for the 2nds, in less than a full season), closely followed by Matt Quartley (22). Average league score 4.65-1.45 ->-> goal diff 64!! Be at the AGM for full detail!!!
