JASON WAKEFIELD - 'A REAL CHARMER'

Tragically Jason sadly passed away on May 28th and words can not explain the loss of such a young talented life. Jason touched all of our hearts in one way or another and was very much loved and respected. Jason was a great friend who made a lasting impact on everyone in Dart Hockey Club and whom will never be forgotten. God bless you Jason.

All our thoughts are with Kevin, Maggie, and his brothers Luke, Mark, Matthew, Liam, and Adam.

A celebration of Jason's life will be held at Bovey Tracey Parish Chuch on Friday 10th June at 2.00pm and afterwards at the Dolphin Hotel. Everyone is welcome to join the family.

Hello all, I hope that many of you will read this message.
I shall be away for part of the "summer league season" and therefore wish to step down as vice captain of the mixed second team. Therefore I am looking for a volunteer to replace me in this role.
I understand from Connie that he is continuing as captain and as in previous years will organise the team each week, therefore the vice captain is purely a supporting role and a chance to get out for a run around each week.
If you are interested in taking this position on within the club please let myself and/or Connie know
Many thanks x

As some of you are already aware, my beautiful daughter Katie passed away last summer. She had just celebrated her 6th Birthday. She was suffering from a rare genetic illness called Battens disease. She had been a perfectly normal, happy, sociable and healthy 3 year old, but, over the next 3 years she lost all her motor skills as the disease attacked her nervous system. In her last 6 months she suffered hundreds of seizures each day, was wracked by constant muscle spasms and lost her sight. It was horrific to see her in such pain.

She passed away at the Children's Hospice in Barnstaple on 28th July 2009 in her mummy's and daddy's arms.

There is currently no cure for this unimaginably cruel disease, although encouraging advances are being made via gene and enzyme therapy.

Katie's Mum Karen is soon to hike the Two Moors Way in aid of both Childrens Hospice South West, who cared for Katie (and us all) so well, and for the Battens Disease Family Association.

If you could spare a few our your hard-earned pounds to sponsor her, we would be really appreciative. There are two web pages, depending upon whether you prefer to donate to the Hospice or to the Battens Association, as follows:

www.justgiving.com/2moorswaybattens
www.justgiving.com/2moorswayhospice

Thank you so much, and hopefully see you all in the Summer league.

At this point, other clubs will be looking at our site for pitch directions, and people wondering which club to play for this season will not want to join a club that doesn't even know who its contact people are.

INDOOR HOCKEY OVER SUMMER
Howdee folks. Anyone out there listening - I have booked a slot for indoor at ashmoor. The first date is THURSDAY 30TH JULY - 7.30-8.30.We can possibly have longer. We can have it a week at a time - until end of august - but is quite expensive - ie £33 so need enough people to go - otherwise gets pricey for each one. So willcost anywhere between £2 to about £4 at most.
I am looking to ask the u14 girls and boys from last year. - as I want this to be development stuff - maybe they can play against themselves and then with you lot after - so we all get a decent standard for soem of the evening. ill haveto be carefully and sensitively managed - remember you were learnign once yourselves (most of you still are!!!).
I am unable to be there on first night - so can someone organise, collect money etc.One lady, one gent - have we got any of those.
I have sticks - will get them there - but bring your own.

Can a player from each team give us a bell - ie smithy, jaz, lin and freddy?
Smithy - can you place it on the website.
Lots of love - Bubs

As nobody has a clue where this pitch is, it maybe a good idea as mixed team captain to contact the league organisers rather than relying on us...you know what we are like!!

I will be unavailable for a while due to torn ligaments in my ankle...will let you know when I am fit enough to play.

It maybe a good idea to put a notice on the news page regarding fixtures for BOTH mixed teams - direct them to fixtures page rather than putting all fixtures on the news...people don't always check this page!!!

Dear Kev,
If you click on Links on this website it should take you to a form which has all the details about the Dinner and then you need to send slip and cheque to me please. Dress- Our men do not usually wear tux's but it might be a nice idea this year! Dress is smart casual.

Well done to the mens 2nd's on their promotion!!! As Dan mentioned, in the news section, we ladies 1st's are also aiming for the top slot & still have 3 league games left! Dan asked for your support for the game on Saturday and it would be great to see you there but we also have a crunch game against Mannamead at Dawlish - 6.30pm Wed 1st April (tomorrow!!). This is by far our toughest of the three & some cheering on the side line would be fantastic!!!
Hope to see you there & for some celebratory drinking at the D & D !!! Claire x x

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to know about the dinner and dance. Do the men wear suits or tuxedos and also where do I get the tickets and how much are they?

Thanks,

Kev

This is a FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Simon Hall scored today - AND NO IT WASN'T AN OWN GOAL - he scored in the firsts 1v1 draw with Bude. To be honest, it merely crossed the line, he miss hit it, people were diving everywhere and it probably took a number of deflections!!!! Sorry Simon, it was a great goal mate but what were you doing that far up the pitch anyway!!!! Can anyone remember him scoring before or more importantly, will he ever score again? I have my doubts!

Unlucky lads.......... 7v1, it was a close one!!!! The opposition were different class today especially with their aerials! We surely need to get short corners down to a tee to take advantage of when we get into these positions especially against the harder teams. Anyone agree, we need to get back to last years shorts that are tried, tested and successful?

On another note, anyone wishing to go to the social on 22nd Nov needs to get their money in. Please hand it in on Monday or Wednesday training.

Veteran Anne Poised to Enter Guinness World Records

Veteran sportswoman Anne Graves is poised to become a Guinness World Record holder. At 73 years and seven months Anne became the oldest female hockey player in the country when she captained the fifth team of Stevenage Ladies against their Bedford counterparts at Nobel School on Saturday 4th October.

Sam, a few more months and you'll reach that landmark!!!!

Yes, but it depends on whether we can get out a fifth ladies team for Sam to captain!

Please see the news section for the hyperlink. These also need to be completed by 8th Nov, it will only take 30 seconds of your time!!!

well done to all the teams this weekend. There is a bit of confusion whether the mens thirds drew or lost but assuming they drew all of the teams picked up points. The mens thirds got the first ever point which is a fantastic effort, the mens seconds had their largest win for as long as I can remember as they beat merjon E 10v0 and the ladies first team go top of the league for the first time this season. Well done to everyone
